Ikoma Bush Camp – Our “Tent”

This tented camp is on the north east side of the Serengeti National Park. It is approx. 3km beyond the Ikoma Gate. It provides very comfortable accommodation in an unusual way. You sleep inside a large tent, but inside it has normal beds and a wardrobe, not your normal tent then !
However, it doesn’t end there. The tent itself is suspended under a thatched roof and at the back of the tent it opens into an enclosed area built of brick that contains the wash basin, toilet and shower which are all plumbed in as normal. The hot water is provided by solar power, so you have to be a bit careful with using it or you will run out. We managed to get a shower in the evening and next morning as long as we used it sensibly.
Each tent also has solar panels round the back to charge 12 volt batteries that provide power to a lighting system. Sue and I both found this to be the only unsatisfactory part of the experience as the light given out was very poor. We mostly used the candles that were provided instead, which was no hardship. It would be better just to take the lighting out and get everyone to use the candles.
The camp has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere that is very welcome at the end of a hard day riding around in a Landcruiser.
Whilst staying here we also had an early morning two hour walking safari which was very interesting and gave a very different perspective on the landscape. Our guides on this were very knowledgeable about the Flora, Fauna and local customs.
That same day we also went out on a night safari. This was extraordinary ! We all piled into an open top Landrover, driven by one guide with another siting high up on the rollover
bar. The animals were picked out using a very powerful handlamp connected to the vehicle electrical supply. We saw 17 different species in the two hours we were out, including elephants only a km or so from the camp.

Question by Anabanana<3: where in southern california is good for tent camping with pets large and small?
I am looking for a place to go camping with my bf and our two dogs. (one large breed and the other small breed, (if it matters))

We don’t want to use an RV we want to use tents and have our dogs with us we know they must be in 6feet maximum length leashes.
also what is the cost if any?

Also there is what is called dispersed camping at yellow post sites these are free or at the minimum the price of the adventure pass to park your car a day or for the year My favorite spot is at grand view near bluff lake. here is a link with more info
